Bernie vows to change F1’s points system
March 12, 2007
“With second place getting eight points it is not right that the winner takes only ten,” Bernie Ecclestone, is quoted as telling an English newspaper, “for 2008 I will propose a change.” “It would be simple,” Ecclestone said, explaining that the constructors’ title would still be decided based on points. But for the drivers’, “the guy who wins more should be champion”, Bernie added.
WOW!! That’s really ingenious of ol’ Bernie that he came out with such a “Novel” way of point system !!
He [Bernie] just doesn’t know how to make things correct in one shot, does he ? When he had the opportunity of doing it correctly in 2003, he didn’t, and now after 4 years he is talking about again changing the point system. Only bright thing is that, finally, he is talking on the right lines.
Fans all over have been talking about the current point system and how miserable it is. Championship should always goto the driver who had maximum wins in the race calender and if there is a tie for first place, then subsequent finishes should be taken in account.

Oh no, Neeraj, I didnt like the opening page - I loved it!
Hmm, Yeah, get it that the soul is WP - but its easier to comment and read if its just on the WP domain itself.
What hosting services are you using? (If I may ask?)

I understand that it’s easier to comment & read if it’s on WP domain, and that was the reason that I continued on the same feed address using feedburner, so that whoever was subscribed to feedburner feed wouldn’t have to change the address.
I’m using dreamhost Sukhi, one of the most economical & having great VFM.

Look at the years when the driver with the most wins didn’t win the championship (they are rare - which shows just how much of a non-subject this is). Can you honestly say to me that the driver who did win in those years didn’t deserve his championship? And those years are also the most closely-fought, exciting seasons of all. Why fix what was never broken in the first place?

Clive, what you are saying is true.
But I personally think there shouldn’t be any point system at all, at least for the driver’s championship. As you said [and so did I] that whoever wins maximum races should win the championship. If there is tie for first position then second, third, fourth … etc should be taken in account. And when you can get the champion this way, why do we need numbers for ?
For constructor’s championship I could understand that the number of point you make is tied with the amount of money you get [from sponsors & FOM]. So I can live with pointing system for them.
But I believe that point system for driver’s championship should be abolished once and for all.
