Brawn linked to McLaren
February 21, 2007
Mere days after he admitted that becoming Ferrari’s team boss would be considered “an option”, Ross Brawn is being linked with a possible switch to the McLaren team. The rumor has emerged in the German publication Sport Bild, which claims that the Mercedes-powered camp might be on the lookout for a successor for Ron Dennis.
It has been suggested that Dennis, who is approaching his sixtieth birthday, might shift his allegiance to Prodrive as the likelihood increases that David Richards’ new entrant will use McLaren cars and a Mercedes engine in 2008.
Wow ! This could be the highlight of next season if it happens, but we think this is just a Rumor and nothing more.

It may be more than a rumor - after all, it makes perfect sense. And yet another opportunity for me to say, “I told you so.”

Clive, losing Brawn to Mercedes would be a big blow for Ferrari, since Brawn is eventually a part of the Ferrari’s Formidable Triangle. Losing Brawn would mean that at any point of time he can anytime pull Michael & Todt away from them, and that is something Ferrari [Montezemolo to be more precise] can’t let to happen.
I said Montezemolo, because everyone knows that there are rumors of Montezemolo being the reason Michael have to announce his retirement, and if he [Michael] moved away from Ferrari, the cracks would appear in the public. And it won’t go down well with Fans and specially TIFOSI.
Todt is supposed to let go of his chief role of Ferrari F1 team next season, and that place would be perfect fit for Brawn, and with more prominent role for Michael, which Brawn will make sure of.

All true, Neeraj - the breaking of the threesome could be the most difficult obstacle for Ferrari to overcome in years. I don’t think anyone disputes that. My point, however is that it is already broken - Michael is driving no longer and they don’t seem to know what to do with him, Todt is overseeing the team at the moment but will be replaced sooner or later, and Brawn is already talking about other options. Montezemolo seems to want a completely new team and he is certainly getting it.
