Symonds sees four-way fight
February 18, 2007
“To be honest, it has been quite hard to judge because things have been a bit up and down, but I would say that on balance, McLaren and Ferrari have been pretty equal at the front, and BMW are right up there too,” Renault engineering director Pat Symonds said. “But all the usual caveats apply - this is winter testing, and you cannot be sure of the fuel loads other people are running. It is still too early to work out an exact classification.”
Hmm… ruled out Honda ?? And what about Williams & Red Bull, still considering them lower category cars ? As far as we are concerned, other than the four Symonds have pointed out, Williams or Red Bull could spring up the surprise. Honda, even we don’t think they will threaten any team this season. So what do you think ?

Symonds is merely stating the obvious from testing so far - it’s the typical “say nothing in an interesting way” response expected from any team spokesperson. The truth is that this coming season is the most difficult to call for years and any of five or six teams could emerge as the best. I’ve stuck my neck out by predicting Button as champion in 2007 and I’ll stick with it (even though I will probably have to grit my teeth and bear the mockery through the rest of the testing season and the early races). Surely it’s time Honda came good…

I think he has a good point. Honda was off pace all winter. BMW is looking good. Redbull still has work to do. Williams could get some podiums later on IMO …

‘Button as champion in 2007′, looks a really tall task for Honda, Clive. You are right that it really is high time Honda comes good, but this season just not look like it.
Max I can see is Button or Barrichello getting on podium 1-2 times, but that also would be because of silly-mistakes of drivers ahead of them.
